Northwoods Music Collaborative uses music and other healing arts to stimulate and inspire communities in the Northwoods of Michigan and Vermont by:

  • Presenting innovative, interactive, and affordable music and healing arts programming;

  • Providing community outreach and education;

  • Creating art inspired by the regions;

  • Fostering a nourishing and welcoming environment in which artists can innovate; and

  • Supporting partner organizations to expand the impact of this work.

Music and all the arts have the power to transform lives through:

  • Emotional Healing – Art allows individuals to express complex emotions they may not have the words to describe and offers a powerful outlet for grief, anxiety, or hardship;

  • Building Empathy – Art introduces different perspectives and helps foster empathy and understanding of our world; and

  • Sense of Well-Being – Artistic experiences provide a welcoming environment in which audiences and performers participate in soul-nourishing community.

Northwoods Music Collaborative aspires to facilitate this transformative power of art through our 2025 offerings, including:

  • Beethoven and Banjos Festival will bring music and musicians from Iceland to our communities and schools to celebrate northern landscapes.

  • The Lullaby Project will pair parents and caregivers with professional musicians and writers to compose and sing lullabies for their children.

  • The Laments Project will produce music and video, and present community workshops and regional events that support emotional connectivity and relationship to the environment.

  • The Artists in Schools Initiative will introduce students to Canadian fiddle music and dance and Native American music and storytelling.
